Semliki National Park in Uganda
Semliki National park covers 220 square kilometres with an altitude of 670-760 m above the see level. Semliki forest reserve was created in 1932 and upgraded to National park status in 1993.
The park is made up of a very dense forest hosting 441 recorded bird species and 53 mammals. It is also impotant to note that, part of the great Ituri Forest that stretches in the Democtaric Republic of Congo.
The park is well known for the hot springs like Sempaya Hot Springs which is a mosaic of different micro habits which provide for a wide diversity of wildlife. Visitors can also make experiments of boiling on water springs like boiling eggs, bananas and so on.
Access to Semulik National park
It takes 2 hours drive from Fort Portal, on the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Road. It is accessible by public transport from Fort Portal. The hot Springs are located at Sempaya, and the headquarters are closer to Bundibugyo at Ntandi.
Other wildlife to see in the park
Some of the animals present include elephant, buffalo, leopard, civet, scaly tailed flying squirrel, and bush baby. There are 8 species of primates roughly 441 species of bird, and almost 300 species of butterflies.
The park has an established trail, which loops around the hot springs. Visitors are also welcome to arrange hikes to other parts of the forest. Do not forget to carry your eggs that you will boil while at the hotsprings!
