Itinerary – 4 Day Rwanda Gorilla Tour & Dian Fossey Tombs
This is a fantastic gorilla trip in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National park, also known as Parc National des Volcans. It is a home to over 360 mountain gorillas in Africa. Major tour activity is gorilla tracking, golden monkey tours, hiking to Dian fossey. Possible extensions include trekking to Karisimbi volcano, Musanze caves exploration and cultural walking trips.
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda, A Land of a thousand Hills!
Up on arrival at Kigali / Kanombe International Airport, our company representative (your driver guide) shall warmly welcome you and transfer to Serena Hotel in Kigali / Hotel Gorillas, relax with some massage for refreshment. Dinner and overnight in Kigali, Rwanda’s Capital.
Day 2:Genocide memorial tour, transfer to Volcanoes Gorilla Park
Morning breakfast is followed by a city tour in Kigali, visit Gisozi genocide memorial center, local art and craft shops as well as local markets. Later after lunch, drive northwards through majestic / undulating hills of Rwanda. It is a 2 hours drive from Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Hotel la Palme, Le bambou gorilla lodge, Sabyinyo Silverback lodge, Virunga lodge or Kinigi guest house.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking Adventure / nature walk
Wake up early for a cup of tea / coffee and assemble to the park headquarters for registration and briefing about gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National park. Group allocation follows and then proceed to the trekking start point.
Mountain gorilla tracking is a life time experience, goes through thick and slippery jungle grounds in the Bamboo forests. Time takes ranges between 2-8 hours depending on their movements. The thrilling encounter with a gorilla family with their leaders (Silverback gorillas) is worth the effort. Sight and stay with gorillas is one hour for observation and photographing.
Retire for late lunch at the lodge; time permitting, take an evening nature walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo as well as Virunga mountains or visit nearby Rwanda cultural Villages or take an evening walk to Musanze local market.
Day 4: Golden Monkey tracking or Hike to Dian Fossey Grave Yard, Departure
Today we go for golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes national park, or hike to Dian Fossey tombs near the former Karisoke Research Center. This is where the late Dian Fossey spent close to 20 years studying and habituating the Mountain Gorillas.
This hike is so spectacular, goes through thick bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats, with criss-crossed trails and tracks of forest buffalo and elephant! Expect an encounter with all sorts of wildlife as you make our way up and down to Karisoke, nestled between the beautiful volcanic peaks of Karismbi and Visoke.
Return t the lodge for late lunch, relax for some hours and hit the road back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedules, you will be transferred to the airport where the tour ends.
